A few months ago I tried to create a blog for the Ballarat Turf Club’s website by creating a WordPress blog and styling it to look the same as the existing site, which I created. I wanted to create a seamless transition between the exisitng site and the blog. I abandoned the idea because of difficulties creating a styled theme from scratch that met my needs.
After reading the guide Build Your Own WordPress Themes the Easy Way I have discovered that it is possible to create a new theme by using an existing theme as a framework. This eliminates many of the issues I encountered during my first attempt.
I’m happy to say my second attempt has been more successful. Tonight I created a new theme using the Thematic theme as a template. I hope to have the blog live and fully integrated into the existing site within the next few days.
It is also my intention fully integrate the blog with the Turf Club’s twitter account and Facebook group. This will eliminate the need to post the same news on each.
