In anticipation I've had the new Hawkers Pilsner and Pale Ale. The former, solid, as before, and the latter equally good, with a distinctive dryness I enjoyed.⠀ ⠀ This is what I've been waiting for though. ⠀ ⠀ The original was one of my first and favorite IPAs. First recommended to me by a trusted craft bottle-shop operator who now manages the bar at @themallow. Hoppy, with a solid malt backbone, it was up there with my other favourite IPA and epiphany beer, Bling.⠀ ⠀ Like the branding and the packaging, the new Hawkers IPA reflects the evolution of the style. The malt is now a supporting actor, relinquishing screen-time to the movie's star, hops.⠀ ⠀ And on the new branding, of which I've observed some criticism, it's a refresh that needed to happen. The Federation star, proudly featured in place of the little man with the cart, is a symbol of the country one of Hawker's founders has come to love. ⠀ ⠀ We're lucky to have you Mazen.
